As you can see from the photos the carving on this Collinson is very much more refined than the later ones. Collinsons made rocking horses from 1836 until 1992 in over 5 generations of the same family started by Jervis Drinkall Collinson Senior.
Here is a lovely example of an exquisite, extremely rare Collinson rocking horse with all original features.
He is a very early carving and is unusual in that he has retained his two side-saddle removable pommels.
He is a big strong heavy horse in need of some TLC. The horse is in original condition including real leather tack with decorative studs, rosettes, stirrup irons, saddle, pommels, curly mane and tail. The deep red corduroy saddle is in very good condition.
At its tallest, the horse is 52 inches (132cm). The stand end to end is 57.5 inches (146cm). Height to the top of the saddle is 40.5 inches (103cm).
His dappled paintwork is reasonably good and he has a lovely patina giving him a traditional rocking horse look. Collinson horses are very popular with children and this one being so large, he is very appealing.
Rocking action is perfect with no wobble. He can take the weight of an adult and wont tip over as on such a heavy, stable base.
Priced at £1500 he is at the moment in Scotland.
