J.R. AND T. SMITH - Established in 1886 at 96 Downham Road Kingsland London. The firm was founded by Thomas Smith, and made beech horses, carts and engines.
Unfortunately the company ran into financial difficulties in 1916 and were declared bankrupt, however some assets were salvaged and Thomas's son J.R. Smith formed a new company but bad luck persisted and their factory was destroyed in the London Blitz.
Thomas's grandson Eric Smith, with his war gratuity started making dolls and eventually registered the trademark 'Rosebud'.
